Jan Strijbos, ‘We're going to sleep, friend’, 1970-1980. Oil on hardboard in wooden frame. Full portrait of person sleeping on a chair with a bird and cat next to it. Title at bottom left. Signature at bottom right. Jan (Johannes) Strijbos (Eindhoven 1896 - Merkelbeek 1977) was a carpenter. After he retired, he became a self-made painter in the naïve style and crafted the frames for his works himself. Condition: good; frame shows signs of wear, such as cracks in the corners. Dimensions: image plane 29.5 x 37.5, with frame 50.8 x 29.4 x 1.2.
