Jan Strijbos, 'Mother. What time is it?', 1975-1980. Oil on hardboard in wooden frame. Two women and three children on a forest path with six people swimming in the background. At the bottom left is the text: “Mother. What time is it? It is high time for you to pray for your soul and salvation”. Signature at bottom right. Jan (Johannes) Strijbos (Eindhoven 1896 - Merkelbeek 1977) was a carpenter. After he retired, he became a self-made painter in the naïve style and crafted the frames for his works himself. Condition: good; frame shows signs of wear. Dimensions: image plane 38.2 x 48.2 cm, with frame 43.5 x 52.7 x 1.5 cm.
