H. Jan Schouten, 'Empty mussel shells', 1981. Oil on canvas. Still life of mussels among stones and plants. Signature at bottom left. Jan Schouten (Rotterdam 1906 - Gouda 1987). After studying at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunst in Tilburg, he settled in Gouda in 1949 as a painter. He was the director of the Stedelijke Musea Gouda from 1956 until he retired. Condition: good. Dimensions: image plane 25.4 x 40.7 cm, with frame 31.1 x 46 x 4 cm.
