Jan Strijbos, ‘Joy and suffering’, 1970-1980. Oil on hardboard in wooden frame. Painting of nine people in front of Jesus on the cross. Title at bottom left. Signature at bottom right. Jan (Johannes) Strijbos (Eindhoven 1896 - Merkelbeek 1977) was a carpenter. After he retired, he became a self-made painter in the naïve style and crafted the frames for his works himself. Condition: good, small crack in the frame at the top centre. Dimensions: image plane 40 x 42.5 cm, with frame 46.5 x 54 x 2 cm.
