Museum Kennemerland

Museum Kennemerland is a regional museum located in Beverwijk in the former town hall of Wijk aan Zee en Duin. The museum has a permanent collection as well as changing exhibitions. The museum focuses on the history of Mid-Kennemerland. Kennemerland has had different faces in the course of the centuries. Around the beginning of the era it was a border area where the Romans had built a fort, in the 17th century it was a popular area where many wealthy people from Amsterdam had their summer houses built. In the following centuries the region developed further into a horticultural area famous for its strawberries and many industries such as canning, Velser pottery, Kinheim carpets and Hoogovens. The Kennemerland Museum shows you how everything has changed from prehistoric times to the dynamic times of today.
