Belasting & Douane Museum

The Tax & Customs Museum was founded and created in 1937 by Prof. Dr. J. Van der Poel, director of Direct Taxes and inspector of Import Duties and Tax. As founder and head of the National Tax Academy, he wanted to teach his students about the history of tax using objects and stories. During and after the war, Van der Poel established a collection that still forms the basis of the existing museum. In 1948, the museum was opened at the Parklaan 14 in Rotterdam. Subsequent expansions and a complete renovation resulted in a state-of-the-art interactive museum with a unique collection.
